Bass players young and old will learn proper left-hand and bowing technique that make it easier to play in tune, get a good sound, play relaxed and pain free, and have more fun playing solo and orchestra music. More advanced players will get tips for taking their solo and orchestral playing to the next level. For all, there will be advice on good solo pieces, bass set-up, strings, etc. Festival participants will get to know world-renowned guest artists who share their expertise and experience in an open and friendly way. Everyone has great time playing in the popular double bass orchestra Monster Bass Ensemble that will rehearse and give a short concert. Participants will enjoy being a part of the caring and supportive bass family. To see the older high school, college-aged and professional bass players gather round to help and encourage our younger participants says it all!
WHAT PARTICIPANTS FROM THE 9TH BASS FESTIVAL SAY:
“Chris (6th grader) LOVED the Bass Festival. He liked the entire program and loved seeing and meeting so many bass players. We felt it was an awesome learning opportunity for him. Thank you!” (Chris’ parents)
“It was wonderful! I've never seen so many bassists in one situation, and the sound we all produced in the Monster Bass Ensemble was just as beautiful as any regular orchestra. Lastly, the Tarantella and the Nino Rota solos were amazing. I had no idea a bass could produce such sounds. I loved it all.” Caitlin (high school)
“This bass festival was amazing. It was so much fun to meet a lot of bassists and talk to them about playing the bass. I really enjoyed all of the master classes. They opened my eyes to new techniques that I never even realized existed. This festival was a great experience for me.” Jarrett (high school bassist and football offensive lineman)
“The bass festival was lots of fun. It's great that we got such a turnout, especially considering the weather and power outages! I really enjoyed that you were able to bring Susan and Ken to teach- that was really cool.” Erica (University student)
“I really enjoyed the Bass Symposium this year. For those who believe IT'S NEVER TOO LATE to learn new ideas and expand on old ones, this Bass Festival was outstanding. I am glad I made the trip up to Boulder.” Jay (high school orchestra director)
